Moldova's codes, finally convenient to use
LexMD brings all 24 codes of the Republic of Moldova in Russian and Romanian to a fast static site, with article search, an archive of editions, an AI assistant and legal calculators.
- Role:
- everything: data, site, AI, launch
- Year:
- 2026, in production
- Languages:
- Russian and Romanian
There is an official source, but it isn't convenient
Moldova's laws are officially published on Legis.md. It is the primary source, but for everyday work with the codes it isn't the most convenient tool: finding the right code, the right article and the right edition takes longer than it should.
So I moved all 24 codes to a separate site and built it around what people actually need: open a code, find an article, read it. Every page links to the official publication, so the source is always one click away.
The official source stays the source. The site just makes it pleasant to read.
Static, and therefore fast
The site doesn't build pages on the fly. Each of the 2,888 editions is turned into a ready HTML page in advance, 2,979 pages in total. The server simply returns a file, so a code opens instantly, and the site needs neither a database nor expensive hosting.
The texts weren't typed in by hand: a pipeline downloads the publications from Legis.md, reads their structure (books, titles, chapters, articles with superscript numbers like 90¹) and builds the pages from it. A new edition of a code is added with one command.
Search by article
Next to the text there is always a table of contents with search: type a number or a word from the title and the matching articles appear right away, one click takes you to the one you need. On the home page codes can be found by their Russian or Romanian name or by code.
If you need a different date, pick the year and the edition: every code has its full archive. The RU/RO switch opens the same edition in the other language.
AI assistant
Not everyone knows which article holds the answer. That is what LexMD AI is for: you describe the situation in plain words, and the assistant finds the relevant articles in the codes and links to them.
It doesn't make the answer up: it works only with the prepared texts and takes the date into account, so a question about 2022 gets articles from the edition in force then. If you ask for a specific article, it opens right away without calling the model at all.
Tools
Some questions aren't about reading the law but about a calculation or a document. For those the site has a tools section: 7 calculators (VAT, fines in conventional units, tax on rent and dividends, late payment penalty, loan interest, rent for a partial month) and 5 document generators, from a rental agreement to a loan receipt.
Each tool cites the article it is based on and works in both languages.
What came out of it
LexMD is live at lexmd.ru: 24 codes in every published edition in two languages, article search, an AI assistant and 12 tools. The site is fast on any device and doesn't depend on the AI: if the assistant is unavailable, the codes are still there.
